Our relationship is key. I aim to get to know you over time, but for now, here's an overview of my credentials so you can decide whether to make contact.
My training to be a counsellor includes a 4 year MSc with specific experience with people coping with cancer, male survivors of abuse and similar. This complements 50 years of experience, notably 10 years living in a mud hut in rural Botswana. I set up a project for orphans & vulnerable children in a community where everyone is infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS. Long-term illness, grief, bereavement, trauma etc were commonplace and grounded me well. I’ve also worked in The City (with lots of time in the Former Soviet Union) and had my own Business Support Consultancy. I was born and raised in Leicester & moved back in 2010.
The term ‘Bloke’ encompasses my style - male-friendly and free from social & cultural expectations, without judgment, but with support to explore and understand what’s happened to you, (rather than be told what’s 'wrong' with you).
I’ve been described as a ‘rugby-playing, beer-swilling pig’, ‘a great dad’ and ‘someone to confide in’. I'm quite happy with forthright, blunt language.
Around 70% of my clients are male. There’s lots of data suggesting that men typically don’t go to counselling, so I’ve tried to make this website as male-friendly as possible.
However, my services are definitely not just for men.
